The Wild had to win game number 5 and they won it in style. First of all, the Wild dominated five on five play again last night and almost doubled the amount of shots that Dallas had through two periods. Matt Boldy had the biggest goal of the game as he scored on the power play late in the second period. That particular power play was a good example of how Minnesota played for most of the game last night. The Wild worked furiously on this power play to set up the opportunity for Matt Boldy to score to give them a 2-1 lead in the game. On several occasions, the puck looked like it would cleared out by the Stars only to stay in the zone because of Minnesota’s work in keeping it in.

Dallas did score a goal late in the third period with their goaltender pulled to make things interesting. However, the Wild responded with an empty net goal from Kirill Kaprizov to end the festivities. The Wild now look forward to game six which will be a possible close out game for them at home.

This series has shifted and is going in a direction that most of the national hockey media did not expect it to go. The media thought this would be a close series but figured that the Stars would end up winning it eventually. However, this is a different Minnesota team from the past several years because of the addition of Quinn Hughes and others. Hughes dynamic is an obvious improvement that has been felt in increased offensive production overall and on the power play. Michael McCarron has also been a big addition and contributed a hardy tally for a goal last night. I thought this Wild team would be different and they have the chance to prove it in game 6 tomorrow.
